X-Men: Marvel Is Taking Jean Grey in an Unexpected Direction as a New Era Begins

Iconic X-Men character Jean Grey is set to shine brighter than ever with an upcoming Marvel comic book series. It comes from writer Jed MacKay and acclaimed artist Rogê Antônio.

After her space-based adventures as Phoenix, Jean Grey will now come back to Earth with Jean Grey #1, the beginning of a five-issue limited comic book series.

The new series was announced in AIPT Comics’ X-Men Monday column and will follow DNX, an upcoming exciting crossover between the X-Men and Fantastic Four, from MacKay and artist Federico Vicentini. DNX’s unexpected conclusion will see Jean Grey heading back to Earth, only to find X-Men’s world getting drastically changed. The fallout will then see the dawn of a new era for MacKay’s work on X-Men.

What did Jed MacKay say about the new X-Men Jean Grey series?

X-Men writer Jed MacKay expressed his excitement following the announcement of the upcoming Jean Grey solo comic series. “More than anything, it felt like it was time—Jean coming into X-Men was largely precluded by the Phoenix series that was running when we launched, and even after that wrapped, I continued to hold off on it until the time seemed right,” he said.

MacKay explained that after the events of DNX, viewers will see the X-Men in a “position to need Jean Grey—and Jean Grey in a position to need the X-Men. Dovetailing that into this moment being one where Jean is in the public consciousness more than she has previously just worked.”

Interestingly, X-Men editor Tom Brevoort revealed that apart from leading into Jean Grey’s own series, the upcoming DNX crossover event‘s effects will “also ripple out to some degree across the other books. But the biggest place it will hit is in Alaska and in Jed’s slice of the pie, where it will be relatively seismic.”

Before Jean Grey #1 makes its debut, Marvel fans can get to know all that they need to get prepared for her solo journey with DNX. They can pre-order DNX now, ahead of its official launch on September 2, 2026.

As for Jean Grey #1, it will go on sale on November 25, 2026 at comic shops everywhere.
