A new rumor could completely reshape expectations for Marvel’s X-Men reboot. An entertainment insider recently hinted at an unexpected character taking the lead role over fan-favorite candidates.
Jean Grey rumored to be the lead in Marvel’s X-Men reboot
Entertainment insider MyTimeToShineHello recently claimed Jean Grey will be the lead in Marvel’s X-Men reboot. The post on X gained significant traction, amassing over 39,000 views. This rumor adds to growing speculation about the mutant’s central role in the MCU’s future.
Jean Grey has already emerged as a key figure across multiple Marvel projects in 2026. The character appears in new gameplay footage for Marvel’s Wolverine, releasing on PS5 on September 15. Insomniac Games’ PlayStation blog describes her as “the emergent leader of the captured mutants” in the game. Jennifer Hale also voices Jean in X-Men ’97 Season 2, premiering on July 1.
Jeff Sneider previously reported that Sadie Sink will portray Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film’s trailer introduced a character with mind-control powers that align with Jean’s abilities. Marvel continues to keep the identity of Sink’s character under wraps ahead of the July 31 release.
Reports suggest Marvel’s X-Men reboot may build around the original comic book lineup. Director Jake Schreier and writers Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are developing the project. Sneider’s newsletter indicates the reboot could enter pre-production in Q4 2026 alongside Black Panther 3. Filming may begin in late 2026 or early 2027.
Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed any cast members for the X-Men reboot. The studio has not set a release date for the film either. Both Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner previously portrayed Jean Grey in Fox’s X-Men films. Harris Dickinson remains the rumored frontrunner for Cyclops, while Charles Melton and Peter Claffey are linked to Beast.
San Diego Comic-Con next month presents the most likely venue for official announcements from Marvel.
