Dune: Part Three’s reported runtime has fuelled fan reactions online, with many deeming it too short. The upcoming space opera film is set to conclude Denis Villeneuve’s highly acclaimed Dune trilogy.
According to some industry insiders on X, Dune: Part Three will reportedly be the shortest of all the Dune movies. Popping Cinema claimed that the runtime is 2 hours & 20 minutes. Meanwhile, Cryptic HD QUALITY wrote on X, “The runtime hasn’t finalized, but it’s in the process and I do hear it’s looking at 2 hrs 20 to 2hr 25.”
Some fans have voiced their disappointment with the reportedly short runtime, while others believe that the official runtime may change by the time of its release. Meanwhile, some are wondering whether the rumored runtime is determined with or without the credits included.
One fan on X, @300mirrors, writes, “Noooo give me 100 more minutes!!!” while @Meeks301 believes, “Fake news. Thats just a placeholder that theaters put on since tickets are on sale. They’re still editing the film right now, rumors are it’s around 3 hours or even longer.”
However, many fans are not surprised by Dune: Part Three potentially having a short runtime. This is because Dune Messiah, the 1969 novel that the movie is based on, is the shortest book in Frank Herbert’s Dune book series.
@sambphilips on X writes, “2h20m for the shortest book in the trilogy actually feels perfect.” Another fan, @bacchusplateau, says, “The book is short, but I’ll be expecting an extended epilogue thank you very much.”
What Dune: Part Three means for Paul Atreides & Chani
Dune: Part Three is set almost two decades after Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) assumed total control over the Imperium. As new threats loom over this rule, Paul’s relationship with Chani (Zendaya) will also face new hurdles.
The movie’s director Denis Villeneuve has also teased Paul and Chani’s evolving dynamic. In a recent interview, the filmmaker called Dune: Part Three his “most personal film.”
“Because it tells the story of Paul and Chani, of them struggling with their relationship, having the burden and incredible pressure from the world around them, and Paul having to find a way out of the cycle of violence,” he added.
Villeneuve concluded, “And there’s something about the way their love, and the time and the way they are, the way their relationship evolves, that study on the relationship of all characters, that is very personal.” (via Deadline)
