‘Aquaman 2’ Jason Momoa Reveals His Script Involvement As James Wan Speaks On Aquababy Rumors

During his recent CCXP appearance, Jason Momoa revealed his involvement in crafting the story of Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. Meanwhile, director James Wan commented on rumors of Aquababy’s potentially grim fate.

Despite many fans being lukewarm to the upcoming Aquaman 2, it seems as though Jason Momoa hasn’t lost his love for the character even after all these years. In fact, it seems Momoa was instrumental in crafting the script for the sequel The Lost Kingdom, explaining in a recent panel how nervous he was pitching his ideas to director James Wan:

“It’s pretty much all me, and I love it. I’m extremely proud of it,” Momoa revealed at the CCXP convention this past weekend in Brazil. “There’s a lot of things you want to do and fulfill as an actor, and also for the fans, and for myself. When we finished the first one, I had a lot of ideas. And I started to put them down, just put down in my heart and my love for the character.”

“Then we got a meeting with DC and Warners and James [Wan],” He continued. “I’ve never done that before. I pitched my own idea but I’m like, ‘They can’t fault me on this, because I love this character and I’ve played it for so long. Here’s some ideas that I would like to do.’”

“And they responded really well to it, and then James liked a lot of ideas, and then they took that and ran with it and took it to another level.” He finished, saying the upcoming Aquaman sequel focuses on, “responsibility, and weight, and what it means to be a father and a king.”

James Wan Aquaman Jason Momoa Arthur Curry Amber Heard Mera Willem Dafoe Vulko

However, it seems Jason Momoa isn’t the only one with ideas about Aquaman 2. Since it was revealed that Arthur Curry would be a father, DC fans pounced on the idea that the film would kill off his son in The Lost Kingdom at the hands of Black Manta. While director James Wan didn’t confirm or deny the possibility, he did speak on how dark it would be:

“We’ll see.” Wan responded during the same panel at CCXP in Brazil. “That’d be pretty dark…”

It seems as though Aquaman 2 is set to take the character in a whole new direction. Both Jason Momoa and director James Wan have put a lot of love into The Lost Kingdom despite the circumstances and controversies surrounding its release. Hopefully, DC fans will enjoy the swan song to Momoa’s time as the Guardian of the Deep in the DC Universe!

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Shazam! Fury of the GodsThe Flash, and Blue Beetle have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
