‘Deadpool 3’ Director Says Release Date Is ‘In True Risk’ Amid SAG-AFTRA Strike

The SAG-AFTRA strike continues to wage on as studios refuse to make a deal with actors. According to director Shawn Levy, the situation puts Deadpool 3‘s release date “in true risk”.

Marvel Studios recently revealed that keeping Deadpool 3‘s release date was a “top priority” following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strikes. However, with the studios walking away from the table, it seems a deal may not come soon. Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy echoed this sentiment when speaking to The Wrap, saying he hopes to get the MCU movie out next year, but doesn’t truly know:

“I wish I knew. I don’t even know if we officially have [a release date],” Levy explained. “I know we were gonna be May 3. Certainly, the actors’ strike and the long pause in production have put that release date in true risk. We’ve shot half the movie. I’ve edited half the movie. We’re dying to get back to work and get this movie out next year.”

Shawn Levy’s wording of “next year” is certainly interesting. It’s possible, given Deadpool 3 has such an advantageous release window next year, that Marvel Studios might delay the MCU movie into 2025 instead of later into 2024. This would certainly be a sad scenario for both the director and fans, so one can only hope the studios end the SAG-AFTRA strike soon to maintain the release date.

Who else is attached to the Deadpool threequel?

Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3 after working with Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project. The upcoming Marvel Studios project also marks a reunion between Levy and Hugh Jackman as the two worked together on Real Steel.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are developing the Deadpool 3 script after penning the first two installments in the series. The Molyneux sisters worked on a previous draft of the project.

Deadpool 3 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 8, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
