Director Michael Giacchino revealed that he actually surprised Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige with his Werewolf By Night pitch.
In the summer of 2021, it was revealed that Marvel Studios was developing some kind of horror-based project with sources leaning towards Werewolf By Night as the project’s subject. Eventually, composer Michael Giacchino was revealed as the project’s director. Gael Garcia Bernal eventually joined as the special’s lead with the first trailer debuting during D23. Now it appears that the project was the director’s idea.
The Composer Shocks The President
While speaking to Screen Rant during the D23 event, Michael Giacchino revealed that he actually surprised Kevin Feige with the idea. The studio president asked the composer what project he’d like to direct, and caused his head to spin a bit when he revealed what he wanted to do:
“It was funny because [Kevin Feige] was talking to me and said, ‘So what would you want to do?’ And I was like, ‘I want to do Werewolf by Night.’ And he looked at me like, ‘Really? Like really? Werewolf–’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s what I want.’ He was like, ‘Wow. Okay, alright. Let’s talk about that.’ And the conversation just kept going, and going, and going, and then, and here we are now.”
