A stunning new concept for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman universe imagines Johnny Depp as The Joker.
There’s been a number of incredible versions of the Joker in live-action and animation over the years, but a new piece of fan art imagines Johnny Depp in the role to face off against Robert Pattinson in a future sequel to the Matt Reeves-directed The Batman. While the first film pits the Dark Knight against the Riddler, a rumor from earlier on in the year suggested that Reeves is looking for a way to introduce the iconic DC Comics villain in a planned sequel.
Johnny Depp made headlines recently due to his libel case regarding the allegations made by Amber Heard, causing him to step down from his role in the Fantastic Beasts series, so Warner Bros. might be a little hesitant to cast him as the Clown Prince of Crime for a sequel to The Batman. That being said, Depp’s performances are always theatrical and entertaining so it’d be interesting to see him opposite Robert Pattinson. A concept from digital artist “Mizuriau” on Instagram shows Depp as the Joker, using his Grindelwald role as the base. He definitely looks the part. Check out the concept below.

The plot of The Batman is being kept under wraps, but we know the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as Gotham City’s Caped Crusader. The Batman will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the character. It is also expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films starring Pattinson.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, Robert Pattinson stars as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The Batman is currently scheduled to open in theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on Johnny Depp, the Joker, and Robert Pattinson’s upcoming film, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
