Secret Invasion: Dermot Mulroney Addresses His MCU Future

Secret Invasion star Dermot Mulroney wants to see his Marvel Cinematic Universe President Ritson on a debate stage with Harrison Ford‘s General Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Brave New World.

“Now, we’re talking, that’s the kind of spin-off thinking. Yes, the answer is a hard yes,” Mulroney said to when asked if he’s open to appearing in the Anthony Mackie-led MCU movie opposite Ford.

He added, “Call Kevin Feige right now. You have his number right? Because, I don’t and let him know that I’ll be running against Thaddeus. What’s his freaking name? I don’t know. Now, you think they tell me anything? They don’t!”

Mulroney played Ritson in the six-episode Secret Invasion miniseries on Disney+. As the American president, Ritson was the target of the Skrull Resistance led by Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) in an attempt to start World War III with Russia. Though his life was saved by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) after learning that James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) was replaced by a Skrull, Ritson’s anger towards the Skrulls led to his passage of the Anti-Alien Act.

What is Captain America: Brave New World about?

The status of Ritson following the events of Secret Invasion is unknown as Captain America: Brave New World will feature Ford’s General Ross (replacing the late William Hurt) as the new President of the United States. Rumors suggest that Ross will clash with Sam Wilson (Mackie) as the new president prefers the new Captain America be used for publicity rather than combat. Originally planned for a summer 2024 release, the movie was delayed to 2025 to make time for reshoots and new scenes to be written by Moon Knight scribe Matthew Orton.

Should Secret Invasion be the last of President Ritson, Mulroney was happy to be a part of the MCU. “I was thrilled to be included in that. They caught me in scenes with Samuel L. Jackson. Like a dream, a lifetime dream,” Mulroney said. “And, reunited with Don Cheadle! Incredible to be there. I hope they bring President Ritson back. My feeling is this, that his story isn’t over because he kind of said, ‘Hey, we’re gonna seek you out and destroy you.’ So, I’d love to see that.”

All episodes of Secret Invasion are now streaming on Disney+. Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025.
