James Bond Update Gives Timeline on When New 007 Will Be Announced & It’s Very Soon

The next James Bond is very close to being cast, following a major update on Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming spy film. According to new reports, a select group of actors will participate in screen tests for the role of 007 as soon as this weekend in London. The list of actors currently being considered in the screen tests includes Callum Turner and Jack Lowden.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, between three and five actors will screen-test for the role. Surprisingly, the report also claims that Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, who was a leading contender, won’t be testing for the role. The same is true for Jack O’Connell, who reportedly will not be in the mix.

While exact details of the auditions are tightly locked down by Amazon MGM Studios, the exhaustive screen tests are designed to evaluate each actor’s camera presence, dramatic range, physical capability with stunts, and overall chemistry.

Whoever wins out will become the ninth person to portray the iconic character. The previous Bond actor, Daniel Craig, beat 72 others for the 007 role.

Most recently, the film’s writer Steven Knight confirmed that at least one draft of the script was complete. Around the same time, a recovered letter from Ian Fleming revealed the Bond author’s intended vision for the secret agent.

Further details remain scarce, but Villeneuve has confirmed that the James Bond film will be his next project after Dune: Part Three. The director recently explained why he chose to explore the world of espionage after spending three films immersed in the Dune universe.

The untitled James Bond film currently does not have a release date. Until then, fans can look forward to reading Grant Morrison’s upcoming James Bond comic book series.
