‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Writing Duo Unaware Of Future Projects

Spider-Man: No Way Home writing duo Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are unsure what the future holds for the web crawler.

Chris McKenna And Erik Sommers have been with Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man trilogy since Homecoming. Though they penned the Spidey debut with four other writers (including director Jon Watts), the training wheels were taken off for Spider-Man: Far From Home and No Way Home. The duo has managed to prop Spidey into the MCU and turn him into an absolute fan favorite. And with how No Way Home ends, we can’t wait to see what’s next for their take on the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

It may seem almost certain that Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are on board for the fourth film in the franchise, but that doesn’t seem to be the case! In a recent interview with FandomWire, the writing duo explained that they don’t know what Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have planned for Spider-Man.

Erik Sommer revealed that it’s unclear if a fourth project is explicitly in the works but maintained that he would love to once again write for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

“This is one where we don’t have to say that we’re not allowed to say because we truly don’t know. To my knowledge, I’m not aware of any future projects in the works. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist, but that’s nothing that you know anyone has talked to Chris and I about. I certainly hope so. I love Tom [Holland] as Spider-Man. I hope there’s more, and I would love nothing more than to be involved. But at this point, we don’t know.”

Chris McKenna then jokingly discussed how Tom Holland filled him in on Spider-Man’s future plans at the threequel’s after-party.

“So he told me a lot about it, but I just cannot let you know. I’m so sorry…I’ve been told by Tom, ‘Please don’t let Erik Sommers know.’”

Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: No Way Home:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and Jamie Foxx, with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire.
