DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently offered a humorous reality check regarding internet speculation about Tom Holland making a jump to the DC Universe. His response made it clear that casting rumors should not be mistaken for official studio plans.
During a recent Q&A with fans on Threads, Gunn was asked if Holland could take a DCU role. The fan mentioned characters including Beast Boy, Kid Flash, Speedy, Aqualad, and Robin. The filmmaker replied, “Not sure 30-year-old Tom wants to follow up Spider-Man with Aqualad.”
Holland is now 30 and has played Peter Parker for several years. Gunn has previously praised the actor’s work and said he would like to collaborate with him someday. Still, there are no official casting talks between Holland and DC Studios.
What’s next for Tom Holland after Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
For now, Holland’s superhero future remains firmly rooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already a huge box-office success. The film crossed $2 billion worldwide in just three weekends, becoming the eighth movie to reach that milestone.
More importantly, the movie leaves the door open for Holland’s Spider-Man to return. Its post-credits scene shows Ned’s tracker locating Spider-Man somewhere in space before the screen reads, “Spider-Man will return.”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has also confirmed that plans exist for another Spider-Man movie. Asked about Holland’s future, Feige told Variety, “There are always plans. But right now, he’s going to rest after that global tour.” He added that Holland and Zendaya deserve a “good and restful victory lap” after the film’s release.
His next appearance could come in Avengers: Doomsday, but Marvel has not officially confirmed Holland for the movie. His name is absent from the announced cast, leaving that possibility unresolved.
As of now, Holland’s future remains tied to his MCU roles rather than a cross-studio jump to the DCU.
